California native Elliott Giffis is the designer behind menswear fashion label, ‘Elliott Evan’. The contemporary line made its debut on the runway during New York Fashion week in February 2013 and caught the attention of the fashion sect for its innovative construction and avant-garde designs.
Born in 1986, Elliott grew up in San Diego and moved to San Francisco to study at the Academy of Arts University, graduating in 2011 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fashion Design with emphasis on menswear. Keen to seek new opportunities, Elliott moved to Los Angeles the same year and took an internship with men’s fashion label B. Scott, gaining first-hand experience as a pattern cutter and in product design. After a yearlong stint honing his skills, he took on a position at United Taken and during this period also consulted and designed for Bohemian Society for their Spring/Summer ’13 runway show.
It was around this time that Elliott decided to start his own menswear label, Elliott Evan. His fascination with the construction of garments from an architectural standpoint enabled him to express himself in a unique and intriguing way. He knew from the outset that he wanted to be an artist and through fabric as his canvas, Elliott could create men’s designs that are wearable and that evoke an emotion or reaction at the same time.
The Elliott Evan aesthetic is inspired by the human form, garments act as an extension of the skeleton; an exploration of the human body. The designer specializes in single needle construction working with leather, denim, poplin; the simplicity in fabrication is juxtaposed by the complex method of execution. |
