In spite of a growing population, Volendam - the cradle of our product - still has the unmistakable character of a small community, almost all villagers know one another as if they were one big family. The beautiful traditional costume of old is now not as glorious as it once was: it is only worn at events such as the annual "Volendam Day" and by the staff of some Volendam restaurants. On this page you will find some photo material that we have collected to show you examples of what Volendammers looked like in the old days. Although those days are gone, the beautiful traditional costume that gave Volendam it's character is still with us. Even today, after all those many years, Volendammers are still proud of their traditional costume and the history it represents, the history of a small, tight-knit community of fishermen and its daily struggle with the sea.
